Your points are valid.
However, note that Stratus products are in a slow-growth,
low-margin markets which is very different from ASND 's
market.
Moreover, currently ASND is using HP workstation/servers
to do their SS7.They don't have a compelling need for Stratus product.
They do have a need for enterprise market 's products which are
those of XYLN or MRVC to complement their existing product offerings.
Once they get XYLN 's technology, they can pretty much offer anything
Cisco offers,only better :-))
Additonally, gigabit Ethernet is becoming a viable and popular alternative, thus XYLN would be a good acquisition,if ASND wants
to remain independent.(A big if ,though)

Atleast someone looks at the rumor news deeper than "friggin SS7 gateway aquisition". Good analysis Gary. Some of the ASND investors are blabbering like Lou Dobbs(ATM vs $ATM).
One of the question would be, what would ASND do with the Stratus's core business(Stratus VOS systems ...server market..)???
