I see there is a thread for Interplay:

Subject 21322

Do they have the new Descent game? I have I and II, and still resort to them now and then.

It's good to see GT up at the open, but not much follow through since then. Will be interesting to see how it closes. It may tell the near term tale.

Thanks for the GT analysis and IPLY info.

Buddy

Bill,
I have to agree with you on all your GT opinions except for one. I really do think that Duke Nukem Forever is going to sell very well. I don't know if you heard but the Quake II engine is out and the Unreal engine is in. Deal is signed, sealed and delivered. I have already checked out an MPEG movie for DNF and I gotta say it looks pretty good....real good. But IPLY, now there is a company that is going to rack up some sales very soon. Look for revenue action as a result of Fallout2 and Baldur's Gate. I would almost bet that Fallout2 will meet or beat Fallout's sales.

You know Bill...remember when we first started out on this thread? We knew that GT had "some" problems but if one of us would have said to the other that the things that have happened to this company would happen would it have been believable. You know there is something that I can't help thinking back on. I submit that GT's problems really started when Walmart announced a gradual pull away from distributors to direct stocking from the manufacturers. Sure, GT said that they expected this but I don't think for a second that they had an acceptable plan for covering that lost revenue. And wouldn't you agree the overhead for stocking a store shelf is significantly lower than game development costs. These guys are running out of ideas and cash. It will be interesting to see which one dries up first. Personally, I am a bit worn out with strictly shooter games. Same old same old. Don't know if they are going to ever wake up out of their hypnotic trance on this one. Trust me, after being burned on this one it is debatable whether I know anything about stock investing but I do know something about games and Interplay's lineup the last year has literally beat the socks off of GT's IMHO.
