If possible revenues by mobile professionals go up to a few hundred
dollars per account, as the news article suggested, that would go
a long way for GM - less subscribers (limited to the mobile
professional market and some affluent consumers who like the product)
to maintain, but with good revenues.

Also, note the MOT's service will be targeted for the consumer market,
not the mobile professional market.

I can confirm the double-charging for Portico outbound calls. I recieved the following e-mail from Caroline Starr at Corporate Wireless, my reseller for Portico...
.................................................................
General Magic has now confirmed that when placing a call (long distance or local) via Portico, you will be charged double minutes for the duration of the placed call.
For example:

Call into Portico, on system for 1 minute
Have Portico place a phone call for you, 2 minute duration phone call
Remain on system for another 4 minutes and then sign off

Total minutes used: 9 minutes because the 2 minute phone call Portico placed is actually billed for 4 minutes.
...................................................................

This doesn't make too much sense to me either, and as a heavy-using consumer (I am a consultant and work on the road ALOT, as well as using it on the weekends, etc.) I am shocked they are doing this. IT makes a sham out of my bundled minute plan as it goes through those pre-paid minutes like water if I return a clients call, or call one of my contacts. Despite the fact that I know Portico competitors are only single-charging for minutes inbound/outbound, because they use IP-telephony to place the outbound calls which is basically free after infrastructure costs. I am pretty sure GMGC does the same thing.. but why are they double charging then??

Disgruntled and Confused?
