O.K., a question from tech-dope. WHAT if in fact Sprint, etc., does use Portico then as a perk to get new business, MCI, or anyone except AT&T who will be loyal to anything LU tries to do or it doing in any phase. Then that TELco could simply give you a break on that as a reason for switching phones.

Again, this is either totally brilliant, or finally I do not really have enough money to play with and can forget it and go back to things in life which actually are much more fun than hanging on the net tracking a stupid stock's every single hiccup, like it's a newborn or a prized tiny puppy.

Also, isn't that exactly what the information system does now? Gives you a number, and will dial that number immediately for you, and charges you .35 for the savings of a few seconds dialilng the phone yourself when you hang up? Can't Portico people also simply RE-DIAL the number without double charge? Is that feature only for Donal Trump who is actually that lazy he can't even quickly punch 7 little digits?

Sorry, I just don't get a lot of this, and ask questions based on my small non-tech universe. Why wouldn't the Telephone companies want this and why wouldn't they use it as bait to get people to switch? Heck, they pay big bucks to little people to just switch back and forth every few months. They just want you with THEIR company. No one mentions that here, maybe it's not possible or something?

It's too bad the Mercury columnist didn't also mention that there are no long distance fees, period, when Portico places a call for you. It seems to be GMGCs thinking that the long distance savings more than makes up for the charges incurred for using two lines: you to Portico and Portico to your calling party. I called IR to see if they'd had any feedback about the Mercury article and there were two calls. They're checking with customer service today about it.

JC does the no long distance charges affect your feelings about being charged for two lines of usage? Is it a wash for you or is it a real problem? Regardless, you should voice your opinion directly to the company.

JC, have you called General Magic customer support on this and
given your feedback? Some users might want Portico available
during their conversation? Others would like to save some money
and not use Portico during their conversations?

Maybe they can implement something like three options if they
haven't already (just brainstorming here):

-- call using Portico with Portico available during
the call (double billed)

-- call using Portico, disconnecting Portico when connection
is made (no double bill here)

-- call using Portico, disconnecting Portico when connection
is made, reconnecting to Portico after call is terminated
(no double bill here)

Feedback to General Magic is how the service will improve and
work better for you in the future.
