Your posts are always well thought out, but let me add a little historical backdrop for you. While I personally loved the idea of arms for hostages and the collateral benefit of kicking that worthless piece of human garbage, Daniel Ortega, out of Nicaragua, make no mistake about it, laws were broken. Fact: Iran-Contra involved the breaking of more laws than Watergate. And of all the people so critical about Clinton lying, Ollie North should be the one keeping his mouth shut. Ollie himself lied to Congress. You ask: is it okay to have a sexually immoral President who probalby is an addict of sex along with maybe drugs (if that rumor is true)... Let's flashback and everyone can draw their own Lie Spectrum:: George Bush said "Read my lips...no new taxes", ten years ago this week. Richard Nixon swore for two years that he had no involvement in the Watergate breakin or coverup. In 1964, Lyndon Johnson spoke to the American people and told them that two US destroyers, the Maddox and Turner Joy, were attacked by North Vietnamese PT boats. Days later, the Gulf of Tonkin resolution was passed nearly unanimously, giving the President carte blanche to wage an undeclared war in which nearly 60,000 Americans died. Lyndon Johnson lied that day in 1964. The two destroyers had not been fired upon. In 1960, Ike said that Francis Gary Powers was doing weather observations, after his U2 spy plane was shot down over the Soviet Union. In 1916, Woodrow Wilson ran for re-election on a pledge to "Keep Us Out of War". Within a year, American troops were in Europe. And my favorite. No direct accusation here mind you, but I am still trying to figure out how all those Japanese carrier groups crossed that wide Pacific Ocean UNNOTICED in December 1941...and how fortuitous that US Carriers were safely out of harms way. Where does Clinton's mortal sin fit in this group? Who knows? I won't even get into the numerous affairs past Presidents engaged in. Unlike Clinton and Nixon, they weren't exposed until well after they had died. You said: surely we can find a President.. though not perfect.. stands for the things of God... We did, Carter and Bush fit that description, but we booted them out... because the economy wasn't doing well. Funny, their high moral standards didn't seem to buy them any points at the time. By the way, speaking of standing for the things of God, Simon Peter lied three times between the Last Supper and the rooster crowing, and he still got to be the Bishop of Rome, the "rock upon which I will build my church" Now, if the man who thrice denied Jesus can move on to a position of Infallibility, isn't there a little forgiveness for an overactive libido?
