I just got caught up on the last 60 posts. It seems that the McKenzie discussion is over but I'll in my two cents (better late than never?). Thursday last week, I had a call on my answering machine from a McKenzie Partners regarding an "investor relations" survey for XOMA. I called the 800 number provided on Friday. (I was going to post this here on Friday too but time ran short.) The person answering the 800 number said, "McKenzie(sp) Partners". After explaining that I was calling to respond to the XOMA survey, they transferred me to someone else. This person thanked me for calling back and proceeded to ask me the questions that constituted what they again called an "investor relations survey." I was very happy to do it. An IR survey for XOMA sounded great. I was prepared to give them my thoughts about their press releases, their web site, their IR person (Ellen), etc... I was stunned by the actual questions. (1) When did you purchase your first shares of XOMA? (2) What price did you pay for those shares? (3) How many shares do you own now? That was it. They said thanks and wanted to hang up. But I protested. I said, "that's it?" They said, "that was the information XOMA's IR people needed to help provide better service to their investors." Again, I was stunned. I said, "don't you want my opinion on how good a job I think Ellen Martin is doing?" They said, "we'll be happy to take down any additional comments and forward them to Ellen." So I did. Whether Ellen sees my comments or not remains to be seen. I did ask that she post more often on SI. Especially during times like these, where a reassuring word from the company that all is well would be very comforting to investors. - Ed.
