Mark (from Steve),

Why does God do anything?
His ways and thoughts are high above ours, we can't even begin to understand them.

And why would he kill his own son (an extension of himself), suffer for us dirty, rotten, stinking sinners?

We could ask him these questions along with yours when we get there...

God Bless,
Steve

Mark,

<<The question I have is why would God expect 100% obedience when he gave us that nature that in no way, shape, or form, would ever allow us to match the behavior of that expectation? Why would God create a system where intention and good works are less than fully valued, but age old sins are held against us forever?>>>

Wouldn't it be best then to submit to a God that powerful? God accused the Children of Israel of thinking that He thought the same way they thought. But God said my thoughts are not your thoughts and my ways are not your ways.

As much as we don't relish the judgements of God they are true and anyone who violates His laws will not be held guiltless. Our only hope is to come to the cross of Christ, confess our sins and receive an undeserved pardon. Other than that there is no hope for all eternity.

Chris

Mark,

Hello to you!

I have not read through the entire thread to see if anyone has asked you this. If you have answered it elsewhere, provide me the link as I would be interested in your response.

If God indeed gave us our nature the way it is now, why then do we die? How does death fit in with His acceptance of our imperfect behavior?

It is because of Scripture that we understand that death is the undeniable penalty of our fallen nature. The indictment has already been issued. We are under its sentence already.
Because of death we realize that redemption is required. God provided a substitute death -- a "lamb", if you will. The death of an innocent is given to pay for the death of the guilty.

If a young child of yours falls down a well, he needs the efforts of one from above -- his father -- to bring him back up. It doesn't really matter if he can grasp the danger he is in. His submission is required because he is incapable on his own, regardless of his own opinion, of returning to the top. Also, the father would have to be lowered into the well, and hold him firmly as they ascend.

May you find your own personal "ascension" to the Father by relying on the efforts that Jesus freely extends to you. He has descended into the well of death where we are in order to rescue us.

Wont you reach out for His hand, Mark? You know how. . . It goes something like this: "Jesus, I take your hand and ask you to save me unto eternal life.

Mark, he takes every hand that reaches out to Him in faith. "If any man come to me, I will under no circumstances cast him away." (John 6:37)
