DougH-
The whole idea that the White House staff is "overstaffed" to protect and represent Clinton in his personal capacity is BS. These lawyers are protecting the office of the POTUS.

We know for a fact Vince Foster was preparing tax returns for the Clintons in his capacity as Deputy White House Counsel.

<<If you want to stop wasting public money on lawyers, then stop waging war with the WH.>>

Get the crook and his group of criminals out of the WH and we can stop wasting public money on lawyers.

<<The number of lawyers dealing with these requests is a fraction of the legions of lawyers who would work on this matter if the WH was represented by private attorneys.>>

The problem is that Clinton has loaded up the Whitehouse with so many of his high school and college buddies that the private sector attorneys that he might choose to put to work have already been hired by him to work in the public sector. Either that or they are dead.

<<When the WH is being hit with daily requests for thousands of documents to be produced to the numerous ICs, Congressional investigators, and other lawyers on fishing expeditions (Larry Klayman et al.) what do you expect?>>

It's hard for me to believe as well that this administration (We will have the most ethical administration ... blah blah blah....) could possibly have drawn so much fire. Unless there was sufficient smoke.

Jim

If you are correct, why does the President need a personal defense fund?

The White House is not being hit with requests, Clinton is. If the government lawyers are investigating the extent of executive privilege or determining the Constitutionality of an executive order, I would agree with you. However, on those issues that relate to Clinton's testimony in the Jones case or related to Whitewater, I disagree. Those issues are completely unrelated to the office of the Presidency.

Make it "ought to be protecting".

Do you beleive that Clinton's dirty little business with Monica was within the scope of his job as POTUS? How about the PJ case? JLA
