Starowl, thanks for the Jaycor and Chaparral links. I can't dope out the Chaparral alliance (I thought ADPT was getting out of "the box business" when it shut down Ridge?), although their FS1200 Storage Router seems to make a simple bidirectional link between FC and SCSI. Maybe this will be targeted at existing customers who are thinking of migrating to FC but keep legacy equipment investments.

But it looks to me at first glance that the Jaycor deal is a minimum-cost investment and hedged bet on Fibre Channel.

I suspect they'll offer manufacturing capacity for Jaycor products, maybe some engineering assistance (and FC people departing ADPT for Jaycor? San Diego isn't all that far from Irvine after all), and in return have the right to remarket Jaycor products under the ADPT name and maybe have Jaycor develop some ADPT-unique FC products as well.

A way to play FC if and when it becomes significant money without having to spend a lot of R&D cash and people now.

Hope it's a good decision; we NEED some positive developments. The ADPT mess is the only thing really preventing me from fully enjoying the destruction of Our Alleged President.
