Shane!

RE: "1999 will basically be a sit-and-wait-for-demand mode."

LOL! What the heck have we been doing?? <gg>

Also, I can relate painfully to this! [Last year] was a year of technology investment, but 1998 is a year of econeconomic correction....... <sigh>

And yes, I read that AMAT stuff earlier today......loved that word ......imponderable......I'm going to use it real soon about something else! <gg>

Also, if i remember (barely) at the last bottom we were told that we had seen the monster years........then came the Asian bounce which must have been like a fakeout I guess. (hard for me to grasp this <gg> I'm really just good at losing money on it).....so, maybe we'll get a shot at very very good or very good, but very very very good, that might be tough to get?

I'll be glad to trade just good to very good waiting for very very very good to show up, eventually........and it can take its sweet time too, 'cause I have a ways to go to recover my shirt....legs.....arms....sanity.....& all that....

Reading the story of Malone, just posted on the ATHM thread.......Americans are cool the way we just blaze through towards whatever it is we want......sheesh!

also just reading in FYI......about eccentrics....entertaining
"The Wizard of Odd" I'll see if it's on-line.......some guy tried to get rid of a severe case of hiccups by setting himself on fire. "He was fatally burned, but managed to get off a quite acceptable parting remark. "Well," he cried, "the hiccup is gone, by God!" " <GGG>

Shane, Applied Materials execs have been the furthest from awe-inspiring of any tech company execs that I have ever heard. Their CEO/Chairman Morgan said about a month ago in a warning, I think it was, that he had no idea when his industry would turn around. NO IDEA! Now this Bronson guy. Maybe that industry is that screwed WRT forward looking. I have no experience with them. They are a secondary effect kind of industry, being completely dependent on another (semiconductor) industry. Hard to make their own market that way. Certainly makes it that much harder looking ahead. However, I have heard some horror stories about how they do business, like in the areas of methods, documentation, design verification. I better shut up.

Was hoping for the sudden rush in demand by now for the high end
guys.

I don't know what you mean by this. Please ekkaspulain.
