I have spent time, and will soon spend more time, in places where speaking your mind would get you shot or your throat slit.

You and me both, my friend. It is not a pleasant experience, when what you say can get you killed or thrown in jail. The truth is often feared by many, however, no one has authority over the truth.

I quite agree, the man can be an absolute idiot at times, he seems to have a tendency at times to seek attention by making his points in an inflammatory manner.

It is a shame that, often times, people who have valid points choose to "cloud" their statements with a whole bunch of garbage that ultimately kills their message.

.... Emile Vidrine..... now that is one scummy little Jew-baiting crossburner...

The problem with a guy like this, from the limited linked posts I have seen, is that he does not use ethnic slurs. Maybe he does use them, but I haven't seen one yet. Often times, posters like this are quite eloquent and rational, however, their true nature is a lot worse. They are hate-filled. They don't expose themselves as much as another person who would write the slurs, but are often worse.

As a poster on the GPM thread said, "Anything can be rationalized". The racists/white supremists often use this premise, in defence of their words.

To all: What is everyone's concept of freedom of speech, or free speech? I am a Canadian but have studied some American History/Government, and my opinion is that "free" is a misnomer, and is a very qualified concept. Often times, the term is used very loosely, and even in North America, a person can not say anything they wish to say.

marcos, you said:" Wizzer, thanks for pming me those two posts of Eric's - I had seen them, and flinched in amazement then - I quite agree, the man can be an absolute idiot at times, he seems to have a tendency at times to seek attention by making his points in an inflammatory manner." -emphasis added

There can be no question about that. In fact, there never was a question about that. I would like to ask you a different question.
That is, after having reviewed the above referenced pm, DO YOU consider the posts to be, either harassing or libelous or invasive of another's privacy or abusive or threatening or harmful or vulgar or obscene or tortuous or improper or otherwise objectionable?

If so, which? If none, so state. These are, of course, from the Terms of Use. Thank you.

BTW, I just noticed that they don't include specifics like, e.g., racist.

I take it that you did not run to SI Bob, and for that you have my respect. You responded to him with anger, but with intelligence and common sense as well.

Actually, I did point out to Bob that I found Eric Charters ethnic slurs, and promotion of killing every Arab man, woman and child. However, my intention was not to have Eric suspended. It was only after many attempts at reasoning with Eric, to the point where I felt I had no other choice. Had I allowed it to continue, I would not have felt comfortable. He was advised not to continue with those words, and chose to have a showdown with Bob. Bob has a legal obligation to prevent Eric's kind of posts, that were effectively publishing and promoting genocide. Had he not, he would have put all of SI in jeopardy.

In a "cause and effect" relationship, the "effect" can not be blamed and the "cause" exonerated. Eric "caused" this to happen, and the "effect" of his repeated actions and lack of understanding was that he was temporarily suspended.

I have no fear of the truth, and just thought I would let you know, instead of being credited with "undue respect". Perhaps I am too proud. I am aware I did not have to tell anyone, but that's just not my style. The truth is what is important, no matter what the cost, including possible loss of respect.

Sorry for any disappointment anyone will feel, but I thought what I was doing at the time was the right thing to do.

I believe that people do have the right to speak their mind, however, I qualify that with respecting the rights of others. Eric's promotion of the destruction of all Arabs including me and my family, was infringing on my enjoyment of SI and the normally constructive discussions that go on here.

The lack of respect I would have had for myself, would have greatly outweighed losing anyone else's respect, had I chosen to remain silent and do nothing. In fact, I believe that is what the meaning of this thread is.

Again, no malice intended.
