<OT> Flat tax: The flat tax sounds like a great idea except for this issue of reliance on income. Dont people here think income is a worthless figure? For example as an independent consultant I get paid into my corporation and my income is very small. Also the elderly have hidden behind the veil of a small income for years, and we all know the real issue is their net worth. Thats why a consumption tax is better... it eliminates this income facade.

Also, my good friend Newt Gingrich said in a speech once that he viewed the trend towards self employment in this country to be a good thing (for a number of reasons) so, along with that trend comes problems with taxing income.
