You seem to think the oil "crisis" was caused by too much consumption. The fact is there was plenty of oil in the country. The lines at the gas pumps were caused by bureaucrats meddling with the distribution system, and also by government trying to control prices by fiat - always a prescription for disaster. We consume vastly more petroleum products today and the real price is actually cheaper than it was in Carter's time.

Conservation is good because it makes sense. Wasting anything is foolish. Is it uncle nanny's role to constantly remind us not to act foolishly?
