Michael -
What is your position on semi equipment makers now - long, short or neutral ? If you could, please comment on the big boys vs some of
the smaller companies that have corrected more.
Thanks,
Dushyant

Apparently there was a message to Easy Al from the last REAL central banker Paul Volcker: "Why should the weight of the federal government be brought to bear to help out private investor? It is not a bank." This "has implications about public policies" he added.

Long-Term Capital chief Meriwether issues a threat to the markets: [-g-]

the hedge fund he founded after leaving Salomon Brothers in 1991 ''greatly appreciates the willingness of the consortium to provide capital which we are confident will stabilize our funds and enable us to continue to be active in the market place.''

Just found this jewel on the BK thread. It says it all (vbg)

<<There is a great story, which sounds true to me, about Groucho Marx who lost a ton of money in 1929 when he was living in Hollywood. By the time he got up in the am on most days in CA the NYSE was into the pm and he already had big losses. A few years later when he was in NYC he insisted on going to the NYSE observers gallery. He got there around the opening and it was a very slow start. He watched for awhile with a somewhat perplexed expression and then cupped his hands around his mouth and shouted down to the floor "Why are you guys just standing around when you could be screwing someone in California?">>
