" I don't think they are allowed to buy/sell the stock right after issuing an 'opinion' whether it is on the positive or negative"

Mohan, this is incorrect. Both GSCO and MSCO have been trading this stock all morning. There is a supposed Chinese wall between the research side (where the buy/sell/hold recs come from) and the trading desk. There is supposed to be no communication between the two. I am not claiming this is true or false. Just explaining the rules the big brokers are supposed to operate under.

BTW, the stock bottomed when GSCO stopped selling and started buying at 22 3/8. I like to watch situations like this because more often than not I see the firm that issued the upgrade/downgrade buying into sell recs and selling into buy recs. That was not the case today as both MSCO and GSCO were selling heavily from the open.
