I recommend an article in the September 26th issue of THE ECONOMIST , in which the author speculates on "Who's next?" Their answer--AIRTOUCH, and I quote....

"With a single point of contact, the firm (WCOM) can give business customers what it calls 'local-to-global-to-local' service. The only gap is the lack of any wireless service. Hence the speculation that Mr. Ebbers' next acquisition would be AirTouch, America's biggest mobile operator, a snip at around $40 billion."

Obviously the Street doesn't agree--ATI at 50 is down substantially from its high of 65-5/8. Does Ebbers covet ATI? Your opinions would be appreciated?

The article is also noteworthy in that it expounds WorlCom's guiding principles, the first time I have ever seen them stated.

"(WorlCom) has gone for markets that have the fastest growth. It has always hit its financial targets.....It has one of the lowest cost structures in the industry. It has bought only the best assets, even if it has paid top dollar for them. And it has sought end-to-end ownership of the network. Alliances are for wimps."

Good luck.
