MCI Worldcom to Invest $170 Million in U.K. Venture, Paper Says

October 4, 1998, 7:44 a.m. ET

London, Oct. 4 (Bloomberg) -- MCI Worldcom Inc, the second
largest U.S. long distance phone company, will announce this
week that it is to spend as much as 100 million pounds ($170
million) to build a U.K. wide network to provide services to
residential and business customers, Sunday Business reported
without citing sources. The company will also build networks in
France and Germany as it seeks to expand into the newly
deregulated European telecommunications market. The company has
signed a contract with Racal Telecommunications, a subsidiary of
Racal Emetronics Plc, to lease some of its high-capacity fiber
optic cables in the U.K.

British Telecommunications Plc, is set to announce a link-
up this week with Netscape Communications Corp., Sunday Business
reported today.

I talked to a young man at Best Buy who was selling Airtouch services and he was really optimistic about Airtouch. His sales were easy and the company stood behind what they were selling.

This is important to me because he was selling Airtouch to help pay for college so he gave me a totally generic opinion. He didn't know he was talking to an investor.

M
