They backed out because they are in a "quiet period" as per CBS marketwatch.

Well, I've got a feeling this is the reason for the drop. I doubt it has a lot to do with Merrill Lynch layoffs and/or cutting back on tech. expenditures. But let's face reality here....what possible reason could psft have for dropping out of this conference? I actually can't understand it now that I think about it. It's not like they would be asked questions about the quarter, future prospects, etc. since after all, this is the quiet period. Or am I wrong in thinking that? So why on earth would they cancel...

CBS Marketwatch is reporting that PSFT did back out...
of a scheduled presentation at Alex Brown tech conf today.

Pardon me, but is this a good news or a bad news? I'm thinking this is bad...

DOW is currently down by 35 pts. I expected a bigger drop by this time of the day. If there's no significant drop in the market today, expect it tomorrow. And that probably means further drop for PSFT. *sigh*
