I think the scenario of default by the likes of TALK and NTKI was brought up when these deals were announced, and that possibility is still alive and real especially in the current market condition...

But I seriously doubt AOL plan to live off of these little suckers forever. they seem to have their eyes set on those big accounts like P&G, KO, and they have a vested interest in making these NetGrocer kind of deals work. I mean, why would they want to do anything to scare away the big spenders, right?

Perhaps. But not at the same price. And consider that AOL likely
first hit up real-world companies; but that they weren't willing to pay what the IPO funded start-ups were.
