QLogic CEO was interviewed just now on CNBC. Mark Haines did his usual very-lame technology interview (if it's toothpaste, he's on the ball, but is clueless about what most tech companies do for a living), right down to mispronouncing the CEO's name (H.K. Desai) several times, just like he mispronounced Saviers' name repeatedly last year.

Anyway, it was short and not very informative, but Desai danced around the shrinking receivables and growing payables vs. 6 months ago - chalking it up somehow to meeting customers' just-in-time requirements. They may be reducing channel inventory like ADPT, but it seems to me that QLGC relies on OEM to a much greater extent.

Desai claimed leadership in Fibre Channel, with 89 design wins (I think we've heard that number before, but it's still pretty impressive) and a bright future for FC and high-end I/O in general. They're sticking to their guns on FC, Adaptec is (mostly) betting against it, so we'll see who wins.

With QLGC setting new all-time highs in its stock price last week, and ADPT near 5-year lows, we know what the market is saying now. Of course, maybe this has a little something to do with QLGC reporting 68 cents earnings vs. expectations of 54 cents. They're doing very well in Adaptec's marketplace. Boucher & Co. had better have new products and good news PDQ.

"Boucher"? Hmmm . . . maybe Mark Haines will have reason to mispronounce HIS name soon as well.
