Hi Jackie,

The thalidomide incident was a tragedy but animal testing, which is performed quite early in the drug testing stage, would have clearly shown thalidomide to be an animal teratogen. Thalidomide does not cause birth defects in lab rodents (e.g. mice, rats), but it does induce a spectrum of birth defects (similarly seen in humans) in rabbits at doses equivalent to human exposure.

Through some bizarre suspension of logic and reasoning, the FDA determined it had no jurisdiction over these potatoes. Potatoes containing a poison. Potatoes to be consumed by millions of unsuspecting consumers because, and this is really strange, there is no labeling required on these potatoes indicating they contain pesticides!!

It's worse than that. According to the New Yorker magazine, they (the potatoes) are actually regulated as a pesticide by the EPA!!!! Now, there is the issue whether or not the Bt is harmful to humans, but . . . .

And the FDA has no problems with Ritalin being perscribed in situations where no safty of efficacy studies were done (long term administration, or administration to children under 6)

1/10 of the boys in public schools are now taking a DEA scheduled drug that is similar to Cocaine (and now being ground up & snorted as such)
Most have never had tests or done thorough case histories for other causes of ADHD symptoms - thyriod, food allergies, hypoglycemia, nor tests for liver function for long term use. But that's OK with the FDA.

We place far too much trust in bodies with far too little accountibility. IMSCO Scott
