I'm puzzled about the benefits of the JV as presented on this thread.

After reading how it will benefit the users it comes up to nothing.

Wireless internet is already there. Wireless e-mail, ditto. So is wireless remote connection to Unix server.

A friend of mine has Nokia Communicator, he reads his e-mail, he surfs internet during meetings, news, sends faxes etc. No cable, no laptop. Communicator has been on the market since summer -96.

So the question is: why does MS get involved with such laggard technology? They must be stupid or there must be something else cooking that we don't know about. My impression on them is that they are not that stupid.

SR -

Only a cable to connect the CDMA phine to your laptop and no extra software?

Fantastic simply fantastic!!!!

If you're right and I have no experience of trying to connect a GSM or other mobile phone to a laptop since one of my partners tried a few weeks ago and came to the office pulling his hair out and screaming abuse at Motorola and Toshiba!!!!!

The implications of what you said are simply staggering. Eveywhere I travel I always have an eye on where I could log on if I had to...you know airport lounges, hotels, other peoples offices, my mother-in-laws....

Ever tried to connect using one of those AT&T airport super phones. I have tried several times and never got one of them to work and could never find anyone at AT&T who ccould talk me through it.

Hope you are right becuase:-

1. Life logging on will no longer even be an issue.
amd
2. Q will be on its way to $200.

Regards,

L
