Other uses for WD-40:

Hey car guys, here's a link with some interesting facts on the very widely-used WD-40 lubricant product. (Company press release for WD-40 Co., Nasdaq: WDFC).

biz.yahoo.com

Please correct me if I am wrong but as far as I know, currently no thread exists at Silicon Investor on WDFC. Perhaps I should start one?

WD-40 can be found in four out of five American homes. WD-40 has properties of both lubricant and solvent, which also makes it an ideal penetrant for freeing rusted or seized fasteners.

I myself have used WD-40 to displace water and lubricate my car's door locks in winter before leaving the car wash, otherwise the door locks would surely freeze up!

Oh ya speaking of winter uses for WD-40 I recently read that it can be used to free a tongue stuck to frozen metal.

I have seen WD-40 used to displace water from a car's water-soaked ignition (remove distributor cap, spray liberally inside cap, replace cap).

I knew a fellow that insisted he could at least double the useful life of a printer ribbon (dot matrix, remember those?) by "renewing" it with WD-40.

Some people suffering from arthritis claim that applying WD-40 to arthritic joints seems to reduce their symptoms (although I would not recommend this, I think baby oil would be a safer alternative).

PS, I also did some brief internet research. WD-40 is also used in:
- cleaning and preservation of firearms,
- fly fishing somehow (a topic which I'm not familiar with),
- about another million or so uses not mentioned here.
