I think the theory makes a lot of sense. There would be no other way for them to make a dollar on their new "direct model" if they didn't get with it this year somehow.

Funny thing is, though reports keep saying the inventory was cleared out earlier -- well, maybe it is gone from CPQ, but I see lots of their machines being re-sold other places. The inet auction places are full of 'em. Dept stores and RS are always advertising specials, and a lot of the offerings are clearly not the recent machines.

Seems funny they would risk doing the same thing again, but ...

They may find themselves competing against their old inventory.

On second thought, why would they do this, if they were really trying to shift to direct?

>>Meanwhile, they are still placing the same number of orders to Intel to stuff their regular distribution channels.<<

If direct doesn't go for them, do you think they would be shooting themselves in the foot by not getting the build-up of deliveries to their distributors?

OTOH -- what if CPQ is not doing this? Where are the chip orders coming from? Other boxmakers report how long it takes to turn inventory, right? How much can one rely on these numbers? At any rate -- we only get these numbers after the fact, right? And nobody wants to get caught short for Christmas.

I'm still somewhat puzzled by INTC's statements. Seems like it really would leave a lot of room for them to fall on their face, if something wasn't up.

Bearke - Re: ". So, we have double ordering from the largest pc
boxmaker and a very large player in the server business. "

Looking for a good reason to explain how wrong you were/are on Intel?

Keep trying - I think you should be able to conjure up 3 or 4 more good excuses/scenarios for explaining why Intel has jumped >$20 since you decided that Michael Bearke says Intel is overvalued.

You didn't do something dumb like following your own advice and short Intel, did you ?
