Excellent post Philip. Your HiFD experiences were certainly interesting, as were the photos. Thanks for contributing your time and effort. It is appreciated.

Philip, thanks for the Comdex photos. From the Stryker photo that you posted, the following website was found in the paperwork in that photo:

desktopmedical.com

Also look at the oval sign in the stryker photo that you posted. "Zip solution chosen over floppy and CD-R/RW - floppies lack capacity, CD-R/RW's are too slow"

TEAC now says "as early as April 1999" for HiFD...at COMDEX it was "February 1999"

HiFD keeps slip-sliding away? If TEAC is pushing back its shipping date, it's possibly because SONY is doing the same (without yet announcing such).

teac (6803) to make hifd drives (in today's news)
TOKYO --Teac Corp. plans to make HiFD floppy-disk drives and is scheduled to begin shipping samples as early as April 1999.

Phillip,

First, thanks for the pictures and the interesting post. I do not know why you had so many problems with the Sony Representatives. I received a clear demonstration of the Sony HiFD's ability to read and write a 1.44 MB disk with no hassles whatsoever. I copied an image which shows the read ability and a retrieved the image onto the drive which shows the ability for it to write. I still expect to see the HiFD in stores in limited quantity at the end of this month or early December.

Did anybody else have as much trouble as Phillip with the Sony demonstrators?

As far as Castlewood Systems is concerned, at comdex, I heard Iftikar say that the product is shipping to OEM's at this time. It is on back order. We probably will not see the ORB drive in American stores til the end of the 1rst quarter. At that time, we will probably see the Teac drive as well.
