Ramsey,

<<how about a first hand report on the Al Gore popularity poll in Malaysia?>>

I've not had a chance to get out and around to do any sort of straw poll on the subject but, of course, the papers have lambasted him. I thought his remarks were poorly timed, and even poorly worded but I am glad a comment was made at all. I want guys like Mahatir to know that the world is watching. God help Malaysians if no one watches.

*OT* There has been an incredible amount of angst in Phuket over the kayaking of sea caves. Apparently there has been a plethora of copy cat operations since the success of Sea Canoe, up to 18 such operations now. They have decided to try to self restrict access to the caves out of concern for the environment. An attempt at an industry association immediately failed with all kinds of finger pointing. The government is staying out of it. It has deteriorated to the level that the op manager for Sea Canoe was shot recently. The government is staying out of the whole mess.

Best,
Stitch

G'day all - regarding VP Gore's remark at APEC, [former] Ambassador Winston Lord [Bush administration] whose wife is Chinese, I believe, was supportive on News Hours [one of the round table] 2 or 3 night ago.

Regarding the US news outlets, the editors of this country did not spend too much time on this matter seems less of the pros and cons of VP Gore's remark than they have placed heavy premium on sensational journalism.

best, Bosco
