For those of you who are asking the questions, all Asian markets were down during your night, and all European markets opened 1 1/2% - 2/12% down today. This affects S&P futures.

In Europe there was considerable concern all morning about Brazil and the effect on the US market when it opens later today.

China is of concern because it, along with Japan, will affect the speed of economic recovery in Europe.

Although Russia is again of concern because it is headed for hyper-inflation, it is not a big concern to investment houses who have more or less written it off, and because the government is going to print money, there will be relatively little unrest in Russia itself and some economic recovery.

There is also concern about economic slow-down in Europe. High Street retailers in Britain are reporting an unusually slow start to the season and there are profit warnings.

Currently there are negotiations going on among the European nations about harmonising taxes, but Britain ( and a few others) are against this measure and this causes a feeling of conflict and unease at the highest level.

The annoucnement of a the co-ordinated rate cut among ten nations a little while ago has had a dramatic impact. All bank stocks are up by a large percentage and the stock markets have turned around on a sixpence.

I don't think this has much affect on CPQ. It has to clarify its own status.
