I'm with you flatsville. I used all of the free lists I could find to make sure I had not forgotten anything and now I'm just buying grocery items that I normally would use as they come on sale. In addition I will buy a few extra items incase there is no water for a while--filter and lots of bleach and a heat supply and that is it. Should be OK for about 3 -4 months with the expenditure of about $1000. The food will all get eaten anyway and the Kerosene heater is good insurance after seeing Montreal's ice storm last winter.

Flatsville,,, I have to agree. I am a Morman, I have served as a preparedness rep in our church a few years ago. I would always "preach" store what you eat - eat what you store. Most people will starve to death before they make a "drastic" change in diet. If all you have is cracked wheat, honey, water, and powder you could live for several months, but why? I think you are doing the correct thing. We are also storing canned food, beans, powder milk, Oatmeal etc. But the key to success is Start with what you eat every day.

Does anyone have an Idea how long a freezer full of meat will stay frozen. What I'm thinking about is running a generator once or twice a day to cool down a freezer then while the generator is running you could also use a microwave to cook meat or ??
