because bks is killing such companies as crown and other small independent book stores.
eventually bks will not be able to grow by stealing biz from these smaller booksellers to
replace the droves of buyers moving to purchase books from amzn. ever check how
much faster amzn continues to grow over bks?

Blankmind,

Finally a bull with reasoning. I agree 100%. I was wondering if someone would figure that out. AMZN, BKS and BGP are killing the independants. The book market in general is not growing. Even the B Daltons, owned by BKS, decreased quarter over quarter. We agree on that. The growth of AMZN compared to BKS on the net is likely ending. BKS was waiting until the net was maintream. I believe you will see BKS growing faster on the net now.

toys and bks do not actively promote their websites, else it will cannibalize the mortar
biz. the only these companies can think of competing with amzn on the web is to do an
egghead, and close down the expensive mortar and open up virtual stores after the amzn
model.

These are two different customers. The concept that the traditional store is expensive overhead is entirely inaccurate. BKS just started throwing money at the net. Toys r Us has just started too. The successful firms in my opinion will have e-commerce and traditional stores.

next amzn is creating a web presence name, that these other companies can only dream
of. they may become the yahoo of shopping, just as msft is the software biz, amzn will be
synonymous with shopping over the net.

Walk down the street sometime and ask people if they recognize the name Amazon and then ask about Barnes and Noble. I believe you will find mainstreams knows the name Barnes and Noble better.

maybe bks should sell the "store" and go only on the net, unfortunately they are so far
behind amzn as to be impossible to catch up.

No additional comment on this<G> This was fun and thank you for explaining your thoughts. I appreciate it.

Glenn

bm, you are not making any sense. Why would bks sell off that which is very profitable to pursue that which is not profitable, and likely never will be? After b&n.com goes public, it will be just as much a money loser as amzn is, which both of them always will be.
