Hi Tom- Interesting... a hole in the radar screen. That's the nightmare of any early warning system. I can think of ways to trap active sectors, but I don't see how to trap recent issues or IPO's in those sectors.

What I use for group and sectors analysis is AIQ. It provides a hierarchy of stocks that are segregated into groups and the groups are assigned to sectors. The concept is to look at technical indicators and see whether the bias is bullish or bearish. The most desirable trading in a sector occurs when a transition starts... that's when you want to be in a position, because by the time the indicators settle out on the opposite trend, it's too late to make the big trades. I doubt that this sort of analysis would lend itself to what you do with the idiot wave, but if you think there's something of merit in it, let me know.

I feel much the same about 1998. It was a huge learning experience and I'm grateful for what at the moment is a significant recovery in my account. I sure hope I can hang onto it!! The gyrations were enormous, weren't they? There was a nasty scent of a bear in the nearby bushes and I'm still hoping he looks somewhere else for lunch... and dinner, and breakfast and snacks too, for that matter.

I'm really surprised at the difference in our inventory levels, Tom! I keep forgetting that the list of buys & sells you post is across many accounts and that they don't necessarily represent personal trades. Guess that's my blond hair showing thru the grey! :-) I'm currently 68% invested thanks to that big rally with cash having moved from 0% to 32%. I was very fortunately positioned thanks to inputs from you and others and was able to execute a lot of sell orders. That leaves the account close to current IW recs, so I'm feeling OK at the moment. I also know how quickly a downdraft can empty the pockets!

I very bright lady by the name of Ellie Burch taught me a lot about trading and once told me that what we buy in December is what we'll make money on the coming year. Let's hope she's right (again). If she is, you're in for a big year, Tom!
