No offense, but, you're dreamin'!! The trial would not even start until January and then they would have to go through the whole process of calling witnesses, counsel for both sides questioning them, etc. There is no way that gets done in two weeks time...

Remember, removal would take 67 votes, which means 12 democrats would have to join the Republicans. If you believe that 12 democrats will decide to remove Clinton after a two week trial I think you'e not really thinking through all that is involved with something like this. On top of that, if the Senate were seen to be not giving Clinton a fair chance to defend himself it would be an even bigger debacle than it already will be.

A longer term issue is that this will set a precedent that will come back to haunt Republican president's in years to come. The bar for impeachment has been moved to an incredibly low level. Every divorce or other legal proceeding that a presidential candidate EVER had will be picked over for any trace of perjury or false statement or even misleading testimony.

This is an absurd and dangerous adventure that a bunch of jerks like Bob Barr are leading the country on. Clinton has two years to go and then goodbye to him. What is the point of putting the country through this? By the time a trial is completed he'll have a year and half to go... Talk about stupid, self destructive behavior... Clinton is at the head of that class and Barr, et al, are right behind. Sadly, its everyone else that will potentially end up paying the price...

RE: Gore serves forever

See if you can check out the Senate rules. If any two senators cannot delay action on a bill of impeachment longer than 40 days by filibuster I would be very surprised. Can debate be closed on the defense's case? Can the Republicans find 60 votes to close the debate? Can a Senate majority change the rules? Does a bill of impeachment passed by the House in this Congress survive to the next? Will the House have to go through this rigmarole again? Stay tuned. It gets better and better.
