Despite all the obvious signs that people don't want to see Bill Clinton impeached or removed from office, the Republicans in Congress seem hell bent on one or both of those. The prospect of a six month trial, consuming the energies and focus of ALL three branches of the government and potentially paralyzing the U.S. ability to conduct effective economic policies is pretty scary. This is especially true given the precarious nature of the world economy and some of the potential "hot spots"(Iraq, for example) that are almost certain to flare up. What do you think the repercussions on the stock market, world economy and foreign affairs will be if Clinton is impeached and put on trial in the Senate? One of the possible consequences is that the stock market will tank, for related or unrelated reasons, this will trigger a deep recession in the U.S. which will worsen the worldwide recession and it will take years for things to recover. This in turn would probably lead to the collapse of the Republican Party and a return to power, in Congress, of the democrats and all that that entails. | ||||||||||||
