Charles and Jim: Re. the future of SCSI, Adaptec's Interim CEO and founder Larry Boucher had this to say in an investor letter I discovered this morning on an Adaptec web page:

"I know many of you associate us with SCSI, so let me point out
that SCSI unit shipments are at an all-time high. This is good for
the technology, but has presented a number of financial challenges. Now we are enjoying strong growth in business from our OEM partners and our mix of business has shifted which affects top line revenues.

"We've trimmed a number of the future technology investments we made in favor of focusing on Adaptec's SCSI, RAID, Networking and Software product lines. What we have done best over the last 17 years is make products that you consider the ultimate "gold standard." We're refocusing on doing just that, but more.

"SCSI is changing. This is a technology that can clearly reinvent
itself for years and even decades to come. Adaptec recently helped
double the SCSI bus to 80MB/sec with our AHA™-2940U2W and
AHA-2930U2 products and we're not stopping there. With partners
like Quantum and HP, we recently announced an industry initiative
to move to Ultra160m at 160MB/sec."
