Brian: I think this is the history. Adaptec/Saviers helped finance Ridge in 1997 in its startup days. Bob Graham was its CEO. Then Saviers and company bought Ridge and made Graham the president of the newly formed Storage (Solutions/Networks?) Division last spring. After Saviers departed, on 31 July, the new team pared down the company and sent the Storage Division to Chaparral. If I'm not mistaken, Graham went with that group to Chaparral. And now Saviers appears on Chaparral's board and Adaptec has an undefined minority equity position in Chaparral.

Any way you cut it, it looks like not much has changed. Ridge and Graham transitioned through Adaptec to become part of Chaparral with Saviers still involved. Might not be a bad thing.

And I think I remember reading somewhere that Graham and Saviers worked together before either came to Adaptec. Saviers was at DEC for 24 years and founded its Storage Systems Group, so he has some history with storage. And he is currently Directory of Analog Devices, which I think sold Adaptec one of its units earlier this year.

Maybe others can correct this picture.

Adaptec made the list of the worst performers on CNN. Could be brutal on Monday.
