I believe you're right. Another great buy is Bid.com (TSE:BII). Currently trading at 3 bucks Canadian. They're looking at getting a Nasdaq listing soon.

Always appreciate your analyses, Doug. And I am inclined to agree with you. ebay's incredible stock price just reflects the supply-demand imbalance given the small float and manic interest in the internet sector.

Nevertheless, the lack of "hype" on this thread I view as a very positive sign for the stock. I have always believed that when a thread witnesses dozens of useless posts (ie, yippeeee!), it is probably a good time to bail out of the stock. Interestingly, despite the 8-fold increase in the stock price in 2-months, there has been virtually none of that here.

Does this circumstance portend even more upside for the stock? (rhetorical question) Well, the stock is up another 15 so far today.
Sheesh!

Rob

Although I understand your line of reasoning there, I think
you miss the huge revenue possibilities if ebay is going big
on selling ad space on their web pages.

One thing I don't quite understand is that you put 25% post-tax
profit on ebay revenue, I think overtime this can go much higher.
Yahoo is predicting they will be heading toward 35%-38% range,
and I see that ebay will have a better operating margin than yahoo
due to the fact that they don't have to expand their content as
internally as Yahoo. 'Viral Growth' in today's Wall-Street Journal
comes to the mind.

Doug,

EBAY is hurting with their auction count as you have pointed out and EBAY knows it! They took off the total auction count number off their site a few weeks ago. now they have taken the individual auction count numbers off of their categories! Last count I had was yesterday morning and it was well below 1,000,0000, like around 935,000! Before they went off line last week I say a total of a little over 1,200,000, which is about a 22% drop! Wish I could short the stock, but It is still too dangerous to sell any internet stock short IMO! If I still owned EBAY it would be put up for sale first thing tomorrow!

Hank

Very lucid and sobering analysis, as usual, Doug. Thanks.

If you have time, would you like to review the following thread concerning an EBAY wannabe? I bought MLRE yesterday and added more today. In yesterday's press release, the CEO openly compared his company to the likes of EBAY and CYSP while dropping names like TGLO, GCTY in the same passage.

exchange2000.com

I wonder when the producers of the TV show Rich and Famous will announce the opening of the RichandFamous.com? Sounds like a deliciously lucrative idea.
