Some people don't get the connection between the three sides of the triangle: Freedom, responsibility, and the constitution. You can't have meaningful liberty in this country without having all three sides of the triangle.

Let's say you have both freedom and responsibility but not the constitution, specifically the Bill of Rights. Somebody like WJC comes up with the bright idea to make us all safer by taking away our firearms. Disarmed, we are subject to those with control of police and military powers. In a matter of time, liberty escapes the confines of the triangle through the missing side.

Let's say you have responsibility and a constitution that does not provide for freedom. Somebody like WJC comes up with the bright idea to make us all safe by taking away a little freedom. That seems to have the desired effect, so he takes away a little more. In a matter of time liberty escapes the triangle through the missing side.

Lets say you have freedom and a constitution that does not require responsibility. Somebody like WJC comes up with the bright idea to make us all a little freer by showing us how much fun we can have with our zippers if we just don't give a damn whether we tell the truth or reduce it to a mere legalism. In a matter of time, liberty escapes the triangle through the missing side.
