Dougerdad: Thanks for the encouraging information on RAID. I'm certainly no expert on RAID. Can you explain how Adaptec's new 64-bit RAID card is inferior to the Mylex 64-bit cards? All I know is that both cards use the same Intel 233Mhz processor but that the Adaptec card has a fourth channel that enables connection of up to 60 devices while the Mylex card, I think, only has 3 channels. Or at least I think I know that. But basically, what makes Mylex the leader in that card in particular? Educate me please. If the RAID market is beginning to boom, I would think Adaptec would push hard in that area. What chance do you think Adaptec has of catching up with Mylex in RAID products, if any? I don't know much about Mylex either except to see that it seems to be doing ok, although it reported a loss in October. And its high (in the mid-20s?) was back in 1996. Still, with this apparent boom in its primary product, I wouldn't be surprised to see earnings improvement, especially given Adaptec's announcement that its just-introduced RAID card was one of the three main reasons for its good performance last quarter. You may be on to something. According to Zacks, two analysts have Mylex as "hold" with Zacks recommending moderate buy. As we know on this thread, those recommendations can be wrong, in either direction. With only about 19 million shares outstanding, if the earnings are good, you could get quite a boost.
