Logic would tell me that they (ATHM) did indeed, at some level, have at least a say in the design, if, in fact, "they" (ATHM) could be differentiated from "them" (the MSOs) during the period in question.

I believe we were talking about the legal ownership of the pieces of the mix that are now differentiated, not whose intellectual capital went into it. I would also have to think that, for this to be successful, much of that intellectual capital went directly to ATHM, as well.

1. ridiculous.

2. multiple ISPs? Why should the cable partners engage another ISP? ATHM is an MSO joint venture. The MSO cable partners and VCs supplied the contribution capital. Why would they want to compete with their own creation internally? You aren't understanding what is going on here. Time to read the specs at their web site or the 10K.
