Nihil,

Since you are a stickler for getting facts right don't forget that Reagan re-appointed Volker and Volker chose not to serve another term. It is nowhere near correct to say that Bush “dumped” Paul Volker. Additionally, your portrayal of Greenspan as someone who benefited by the S&L abuses shows you not being intellectually honest. I am second to none in my praises of Paul Volker and his courage. He is indeed one of the greatest men of the century. However, to heap his accomplishments on Jimmy Carter is absurd. Carter and the Democrats were very critical of Volker and did not believe in his cause.

Hugh,
The only thing more obvious than your political leanings is the absurdity of the tinted color of the glasses through which you view history.
Rest assured, I was there, in business, trying to make a go of it having to borrow money at 14...15...16...17% due to the failed policies of Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter and a failed democratic Congress while you, Professor, were there, in the Ivory tower of academia trying to teach us how it's done. Never mind that you likely have little or no outside experience running, much less, starting a business.
I remember well, the rate hikes, but unlike you I don't remember anything like Jimmy Carter having the spine to clean up the problem before he left. At best, he is viewed as a moral, evangelical President that failed in Afghanistan, did his best to make us a secound rate milatary power, used our Athletes as Pawns in a Cold War by stopping our Olympic team from competing in Moscow in 1980 and for getting our a$$ whipped by the Ayatollah Kholmeni (sic).Remember the desert rescue that failed?
This country didn't start to feel good again until Reagan gave it to medicine it needed.

Despite your obviously absurd view of history and our differences, I'm a fair person and I'd probably still rescue you if you were drowning.

All the best, Jim
