New Info on AtCost.com I received a response from OnSale from an inquiry as to how Vendors get their products sold on atcost.com
AtCost.com is a mirror of the Tech Data distribution catalogue .
All product and processing of shipments is done by Tech Data.
OnSale owns none of the inventory, and only operates on fees and advertising.
I made this inquiry, in addition to sending OnSale the note about the competitive pricing issues, posted previously.
the tech data alliance explains a lot. OnSale expects that auction prices of same items will remain lower than atcost offers. They are not concerned about competitive pricing issues, because they own no inventory. This will be a very interesting scenario.
In the past the offers to the general re-sale population by Tech Data or Ingram have been high priced, because of services and terms of sale which they offer. A good reseller shopping, can find specific merchandise from a variety of sources, usually lower priced than the computer distributors.
I will keep watching the results of this effort by OnSale, but expect the auction to continue to drive their business model.
