Stand on the corner of 18th and Castro St.
and wait for a compliment. Every dog has
his day.

P.S. Just kidding. I appreciate your input to this
thread, so nix the above. At the other end of
the spectrum - take the Red Line cruise under
the Golden Gate bridge and bring your coat.

BayDog,

I lived in SF for a while. I suggest you rent a car, and go over the Golden Gate, around Salsulito(sp?) over to Tiburon. Go eat there. Very nice, and you'll probably run into a celebrity. Most importantly, go up the hill, and you have the most spectacular view of the bay, downtown SF and the GG bridge. It's a little known secret for impressing the babes.

OT: Dog-

Go down to the SF wharf like many of the tourists do, and check out the harbor and the people. The is a very good sushi bar on the east side of the walkway that serves Texan sized portions. (Do BBQin Texans eat raw fish?)Also, if you have time, charter a fishing boat for salmon. It would be a half day trip but well worth it. Also, a visit to Alcatraz is very interesting. I remember going there once with my son and we were shown the solitary confinement quarters. Made my son wonder why anyone would ever want to commit a crime.

BayDog,

If you Like wine, rent a limo and pile in with your buddies and do a wine country tour. If you like to play golf, there's Half Moon Bay... Oh that's right, scratch the golf. If you like airplane rides call a local (small) airport North of town and get a low altitude tour of the bay and bridges... If you like the blues, check out Eli's in Oakland (don't take your car there). If you wanna see BigTrees suitable for even the BigDog, there is a national forest (I forget what it's called) over the bay bridge with those giant cedars in it. Go to the wharf and dine... If you wanna feel trapped, go to that prison where they made the movies (in the bay)... Wanna play tennis and see pretty girls? Go to the Claremont above Berkley... Wanna sail? Go to the marina at Berkley and rent a sail boat (too cold now I guess).

Big:

The Wharf's always good...get a shrimp cocktail (but make sure it's fresh Bay shrimp...if it's not, then get crab) and walk behind the restaurants to where the boats are moored. There should be some old-timers mending crab pots this time of year. There's some pretty fair street musicians at The Cannery, a couple of blocks away. If you're hungry for something more substantial than a cocktail, try the bouillabaisse at Castagnola's, or check out Scoma's...they're both to the west of the main Wharf. You won't be disappointed with either of them.
From the Wharf you can hop on a Cable Car (take the Powell St. car) that'll take you up Columbus Ave. At Union St. (on the left, as you're going away from the Bay) there's a restaurant, called Fior D'Italia, that serves the best pot roast in the City.
If you get off the car at Green St., you can walk a block west to the corner of Stockton and Green, and get the best almond tart or terrone that you've ever had, at a bakery called La Victoria.
Then you can walk south to Broadway, then east a block to Grant, and you're at the northern end of Chinatown. If you're staying around Union Square, just make the walk through Chinatown and you'll end up a block east of the Square (it's about 12 blocks).
