It's an entirely different thing Val. The product mentioned is something that the RBOCs employ when they run out of pairs in an area - it's not something for sale to consumers. When they modulate the two lines into one pair they demodulate them at the other end and charge for each line as if it were a separate pair. In other words it's merely a "pair gain" device.

If you read my post you'd also notice that these things only work over a short distance and by the nature of their design you can't get more than 56K/2=28K through each of the two lines but this three-line one may have a different modulation scheme thus allowing more bandwidth. Regardless you're not going to be able to use a 56K modem through it as you're throwing another A/D - D/A conversion into the loop.

If it will allow 28K to go through then BT would have not trouble that as the voice, data & FAX just as it does already on a single pair that isn't going through one of these pair gain devices. Actually I've seen BT operate over far lower data rate connections than 28K but since the voice channel takes up a bit of the bandwidth your data rate obviously suffers a bit when you're speaking.

Call one of the engineers out at PacTel and ask them about the use of these pair gain devices, you may as well get it from the horse's mouth.
