>>Plextor 8X write drive

Yes, the specs look wonderful, especially the vibration damping
given my experience with Plextor.

What about your 8x CD? You were having problems initially,
as I recall. Is this the same drive? Have the problems
gone away? I still remember my failing, hot running, noisy
4x plextor with no affection, but I could never carp about
the performance, that's for sure. While it worked (in
fairness, it worked for over two years).

I'm burning a CD now as it happens <g>.

Good news about the Mylex controller. I much prefer
"Medium Error" to, say, "5". Seems less ... impersonal.<g>

>> Plextor 8x, again

I just looked again at this drive at Necx. I had looked
at it before your post at buy.com, actually, but there
was only an external version there at 500+.

Aggghh. It's tray (not caddy) loading. I can feel my
last vestige of willpower crumbling. This really looks
like a burn dream machine (what was the name of this
thread again ? <ggg>). Faster'n a scalded grayhound
and internally cooled and damped, no less. Do we believe
the 60,000 hr MTBF? 6.8 years at 24x7x365. Nahhh.
Still ...
