The only way the GOP ever wins is by taking part of the swing voters

I think it the other way around. If Perot had not run we would have a different pres. right now,and I do agree a lot of the GOP voted for Perot, but the 49% that voted for Clinton prob. did not include many "swing" votes.

Now, the "religious right" as opposed to the plain old "Conservative right" are actually a force for evil in the world, because they want to legislate their moral code as the law of the land.

See what I was talking about as far as the pendulum goes?? You are a confessed liberal so the " religious right" must be evil in your mind. Whether you want to believe it or not, this USA was founded on many of the "moral codes" that you hate. Not that the founders were perfect far from it, but they did realize without morality it is not possible to have much of a society. If you do not believe that then take a look and see how long this USA has lasted with wealth and health as opposed to most of the world. You think that is by chance??

Stand by and watch it go down the toilet as you get your way with no morality in the USA to be held as a standard. Bank on it.

( I am not talking about a Pat Robertson, TV preachers view of the world, but a moral code that has been the thread that held the fabric of the USA together.)

As a Democrat, my dream GOP ticket is Steve Forbes and Dan Quayle. That would make for a truly fun election.

Fun for who? Steve Forbes reminds me of an old episode of Star treck(but that is another story) and he never blinks. I can't trust a guy who never blinks.

I don't think the conservative or the religious right will stand for two moderate Republicans

Just as Clinton ran to the middle when he was elected, Bush/Dole or Dole/Bush could run to the right when they are elected, right?

Al Gore will steal the swing voters from the GOP candidate.

I do not think Gore can steal any votes from anyone. He will have to be elected by DEMS or go down in flames IMO, or another Ind. steal GOP votes and then Gore might be elected by a minority of the voters as was Clinton..

<< The conservative right are not evil, just sadly misguided and out of touch with most Americans ... >>

Gary Bauer is running for President. On Meet the Press he was misleading about his mission to outlaw abortion until he was pinned down. Even after being asked directly about his stand on abortion rights I found him evasive. My comment is not so much about abortion as it is about politicians trying to sucker punch the American people after they get into office.

But, that is not what I consider really scary about him. He also advocated giving legal rights to a fetus. Can you imagine the legal nightmares that would develop if fetal rights were implemented. Worse then that, men and women would lose control of their unborn child to the state!

"Sadly misguided" is an understatement.

Regards, Bob
