Timbo... I am sorry... I am not getting it, I am new to shorting.

Lets do this again and slowly, If I short a stock ...

(selling shares I don't have but have to have the $$ value in my account to cover the short sale) ......

If I short a stock, my cash is tied up to cover my position and I hope to buy back cheaper to "cover" and keep the difference as my gain.

Sooooooooo........ how to I "cover" and realize the "gain" if the stock never trades again? Does my broker free up my cash now?

Sorry... just trying to learn.

Allen Portney, who had been asleep in his luxurious suite on B-deck, had also been awakened by the
strange noise caused by the iceberg. Without bothering to change out of his nightclothes, he went to the
bridge and asked Captain Timbo what had happened.

"We have struck ice", came Timbo's reply.

"Do you think the ship is seriously damaged?" Portney asked, hoping that things weren't as bad as they
might be.

"I am afraid she is."

The rest of the conversation between the two men has not survived but it is very likely that Portney must
have been shocked by the news. His dream was turning into what would become a nightmare.
