Yea... The real culprits in this oil mess are western countries, but
we blame OPEC, OPEC, OPEC, Arabs, Sadam... and are grasping for a straw:
maybe Chavez will solve our problems...

<<I hear there are some jackups bid in the Gulf at 9500/day -- folks, that is about 3000-4000 below direct operating cost.>>

John, I'm a little curious what you mean by "direct operating cost." It must be higher than the variable costs which means it is still more beneficial than keeping the rig idle. Otherwise they just wouldn't lease it out, right?

Gary

I agree it's getting UGLY!
EVERYONES SELLING!
GET OUT AT ANY COST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For Example:

Tops sells for leading mutual funds:
Putnam A investors Fund (A+)
Schlumberg 658,000
Mobil 308,500
Halliburton 797,000

Victory Diversified stock A (A)

Schlumberg 310,000

Janus Worldwide Fund (A)

Schlumberg 1,222,450

INVESCO GROWTH (A+)

Royal Dutch 171,000

Exon 68,200

ALLIANCE Premier Growth. (A+)

schlumberg 1,299,328
Halliburton 660,100

These numbers are from IBD 2/3 & 2/4. They show some of the leading mutual funds (all A and A+) and what they are buying and selling. No one is buying oil, they are all SELLING. We stand alone. They have all those high paid analyst, and fancy computer models. We're licked. Sell everything.

Wait a minute! We've got. What do we have? "Minds of our own"

Six months ago when I was buying Semi's these funds were all dumping them too. Semi's were never coming back. Computers were going to run or rocks or wood or something. I'm not sure what. But I know no one was ever going to use semi-conductors again. Well guess what they were wrong. The worm finally turned and they came rushing back in and I took my profits and headed for the oil patch.

The worm will turn. Maybe not today and maybe not even for the next few months. But some of these stocks are screaming buys. So if you've got the time and patience you'll make your money. If you want to play the BIG MO game go to the NET. But if your one of the 2 or 3 Value investors left in the world, jump on in. Warren will be here as soon as he can figure out how to get rid of all that coke he owns.

Enjoy!

Gosh John, Carl Thorne (ESV) said he just leased a bigger rig and boat in the GOM for the 20's this week.
His stated operating cost for a rig was 14k maybe a little less.

I would like to know where you heard your figure.
TIA
