Jeffrey P. -- <<I built my system, and I can tell you that I didn't. Abit BH6, Cas 2 128meg memory, 300A Celeron that sometimes pretends its a 450 (grin), SBLive, Supermicro 750a case, Metabyte Wicked3d Vengence, Creative Encore5x DVD, HP 8110i Burner, Jaz 2GB, ZIP, 3Com Courier I-ISDN adapter, WD SCSI card (only part I don't like), IBM Deskstar 16.8 Gig Drive, Nanao T2-17TS (great monitor for its time) ... assorted scanners, Joysticks, mice.... OH and an AWESOME set of Bose Acoustimass computer speakers with the sub. >> I just built two such machines. :). One for crunching and the other for work/gaming. Both are not outfitted equally Abit BH6, Corsair Cas 2 256meg memory, Celeron 300a (thank somebody for the reference to minotaur.com also bxboards.com One of the Celerons runs rock solid at 75Mhtz/338Mhtz. I haven't stressed the other one yet. ) Monster mx300, 300 watt case, atapi zip drive, 3Com Courier I-ISDN (highly recommend the Courier. It is a HARDWARE modem, not a WinModem. I never could get the Sportster to use dual ISDN properly. It got blown in a thunder storm and I'm glad it did.) Kinston Ethernet 100 base t cards, Netrunner Ethernet hub. IBM Deskstar 10 gig. (7200 RPM, the next add in will be a bigger one) NEC e700 (.24dpi, only 17 inch, but that's OK with me. I'm very happy with it.), Crappy speakers. The thing the MX300 is reviewed as being very good at is 3d audio. My next purchase will be some decent 4 speaker system. Monster Fusion AGP. (I do NOT reccomend the Monster Fusion. First, PC Gamer's tests rate it at considerably slower than the Guillemot, second, I couldn't get it to run stably at 66Mhtz. It locks up my PC on Unreal at 66Mhtz. => I am running the AGP clock at 50Mhtz. (75 x2 /3, Jeffrey will understand.) It works fine and my gaming performance is outstanding. Oh, BTW, I had to use the 3dfx reference drivers to eliminate a few other problems. The Diamond drivers were inferior. Now, on my old K6-233 system, I had gotten a Wicked3d Vengeance (PCI). The Metabyte drivers didn't work, but I read the fine print and nobody claims that Banshee works on the original AMD K6, only on the K6-2. The 3dfx reference drivers work fine. The experiment I haven't done is to drop the Vengeance PCI into my new game machine and drop the Fusion into the garbage. If the Metabyte drivers work on the new machine, I'll certainly order the 3d glasses and possibly another Wicked3d Vengeance. I might wait for V3. I have found this thread to be an excellent way to find references to build a kick ass PC. I have found 3dfx to be an excellent way to lose money in the stock market. I have some faith in the long term prospects, especially with the STB deal. I'm watching for some sign that the stock is stabilizing. Joe Hoane no position
