Good to see you back here, Mike. I think that we'd all like to know what the nature of your RR problem was, if you should ever happen to find out. Are you saying that you were able to use RR, but not to SI?

Frank

MikeM, we had a brief discussion of this over on the Ciena thread. As far as I can remember, this is not a new sale for Ciena. They inked this deal several months ago and now I think they're ramping up. It is however, the first deployment of Ciena's DWDM with Cisco. You may or may not know this, but Ciena and Cisco announced a partnership about a year ago in which they said that they were going to sew DWDM directly onto Cisco equipment to provide IP over DWDM. (I apologize if I'm butchering the descriptions; I'm not a techie). This is the first thing that I have seen to actually do it.

As for speculation of a Cisco-Ciena merger--we've now been waiting six months since the TLAB-Ciena merger cratered, and there has been no signs of movement. I discount the possibility of it happening, unless the IP over DWDM initiative starts to get traction.

Doughboy.

Mike,

"But I have had a terrible time accessing SI via my cable modem for months now."

FWIW (or a shot in the dark), a bunch of folks were discussing this very issue on the Welcome to SI thread a few months back. Their access to SI using a cable modem was terrible. They reported that their access to other sites wasn't nearly as bad. They found that turning off the proxy server fixed their problem. No idea if this could help you or not, but thought it may be worth mentioning.

Good luck,

Steve

"I have the same problem with @home.

Turn off the proxy and direct connect. It sped it up 20 fold.

Not sure why SI was hurt more than most other sites, but it sped up immediately and is reversible. Turn on proxy, slow down SI. Turn it off, good response."

"It worked! Disabling the Proxy server was the answer. I had to go into Tools/Internet Options/Connections/LAN settings to do it. (It was the LAN settings that I didn't know about last night)."
