Let me take a crack at this, Jim J.

I didn't see Onsale's description from which you ordered, or bid for, the product, so I can't comment on that aspect of it.

But you have apparently purchased a perfectly valid license and you can use it to get what you need. Just call Microsoft and ask for a copy of the Office 97 Enterprise Update CD and they'll send it to you at no cost. You'll simply supply them with the serial number on your certificate. I believe all the documentation you need is included on the CD, which is a complete install of the "fixed" version of MS-Office 97. I wouldn't worry about the printed manual. It's pretty useless. If you need good printed documentation, buy one of the Office 97 bibles. I use the "Running" series.

For more information on the various bugs and fixes, go to Woody's Office Watch and sign up for their free newsletter. It's great. (All back issues are archived.)

I'm not saying ONSL performed instantly or to your satisfaction. Perhaps their description was incomplete or incorrect. Like any business--especially on the Net--they're not perfect. But hey, they're not malicious. Just want to help you solve your problem.

I'm long ONSL but I've never bought anything from them. Know many people who've bought a ton of stuff, though, and they're very satisfied. It's just one of those things.

I agree that whether the ad on the ONSL page was correctly stated or not, all YOU need do is call MSFT an 800 370-9272 and request the Office 97 SR-2 REPLACEMENT CD. Have your certificate with you so you can read the info to the MSFT order-taker.

They will suggest you go to the WEB, politely say "NO THANKS, I have no modem"

They will suggest you accept the "SR-2 PATCH" CD, say "NO", you'd rather get the REPLACEMENT CD.

That's all there is to it.

You can request the MSFT Windows98 Year 2000 Upgrade CD at the same time.
