Amelio predicted in his book that Jobs would replace Eisner.

via ZDNN

>"...I predict Steve will one day conquer Hollywood as dramatically as he conquered Silicon Valley. Michael Eisner, watch out; Steve Jobs now has a new talent on his resume: displacing the CEO. The Walt Disney Company could be next."<

www4.zdnet.com

I did a HotBot search on "Steve Jobs" and "Michael Eisner". Got the above as well as a 1995 quote from Jobs complimenting Eisner/Disney for their mentoring of him/Pixar

At this point it's wait and see if a) the major media picks up on this; b) if one of the key players confirms or denies; c) a breakdown of the numbers -- $7B could be as much as $51/share or as little as $39 1/2 if you add in convertible dilution.

Second thing to remember if you're playing short-term is that MacWorld Tokyo opens Thursday. Even if this deal is a non-starter, Jobs' keynote could introduce QT4 or P1.

My take on the deal is agnostic to extremely cautiously optimistic. Some comments:

1) The takeover premium seems low (even at $51), but if Jobs is actually in a position to drive this deal, what's the point of pushing up the price if he's going to run the show anyway.

2) IMO, the deal makes sense for all parties. In one swell foop, AAPL gains critical mass as well as the MSFT-like media diversification.

PIXR's future is assured by melding into the best brand name in the business.

DIS gets in PIXR the hottest animation company out there.

In AAPL they get (cheap!) the best brand name in consumer computing; a technological edge in web based-multi-media and, arguably, the hottest CEO on the planet.

Stay tuned and be particularly careful -- I agree with the comment on another thread. This could well be a well-thought out hoax (or piece of AAPL disinformation) but it's a good one.

Man, I'd LOVE to hear how Jobs persuaded the Disney board that Apple would be one of the leaders in the online entertainment industry over the next decade.

Pixar runs on Sun, no?

No. We hashed this out last year with A Bug's Life. Pixar runs Macs for most administrative machines, the highest end multi-processor Sun machines for rendering, and a mix of workstations (SGI/Sun) for authoring. And yes, I think you could probably find an Openstep machine or two in Steve's office.
